SHOP UPDATE on Sunday, October 14th at 10am edt.

We are happy to give you a sneak peak of a few of the items that will be offering in this upcoming SHOP UPDATE which is Part 1 of our Fall Collection!  We have sourced some very beautiful local woods (with the exception of our black walnut which comes from New York state's Hudson Valley) for our fall collection of boards.  When sourcing we are looking for the most gorgeous grains with burls and knots, and other interesting details.  The color palette for the ceramics includes Lichen, Teal, Aqua, Blue Grey, White, Matte Black and Ocean.   Look out for an announcement for date and time for Part 2 of our Fall Collection!

Happy Fall!

Next SHOP UPDATE on June 10th

shop update on Sunday, June 10th at 10am EDT

I am super excited to offer some of the work from my spring wood firing at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts.  Wood firing is truly a communal effort.  I fired with a group of seven other women over an intense 48 hours + period.  I had two shifts which include an overnight from 1am until 9am.   I'm not particularly a night person, however I loved watching the sun come up and hearing the birds singing.  The effects of the firing on each piece can be dazzling and disappointing.  I had some of both.  The process makes these works a bit more special.  I will also be offering work fired in my electric kiln, along with a beautiful selection of Patrick Moore's handmade wooden charcuterie boards.

new wood fired pieces + SHOP UPDATE in May

For the past several months I have been preparing for a wood firing that is coming up at the end of April.  I'll be firing in the Train Kiln at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts with a group of women.  This photo shows some of the work as it is drying and waiting to be bisqued.  I have been exploring new glazes for our cone 12 firing.  It will be very exciting to see the results when we unload the kiln!

Along with some of this work, I have been firing pieces in my electric kiln in preparation for our May SHOP UPDATE. Patrick has been busy making some gorgeous charcuterie and cheese boards in cherry, birch, maple, oak, locust and black walnut.  Please sign up for our mailing list for dates and times for our sales.  You can also follow us on Instagram for up to date information.  Happy Spring!  -Michele xo

spring in NY

I made a quick trip to NYC this week and was happy to catch it in full bloom!  Spring was always my favorite season in NYC.  I made sure to visit the Union Square Farmer's Market to pick up some ramps and asparagus to bring home with me.  We won't see them in Maine for a few more weeks.  If only I could have brought the big bucket of lilacs home with me on the plane!  I had dinner at Santina one evening with friends.  The restaurant sits under the High Line.  It's an amazing glass enclosed space, designed by Renzo Piano, with a very lively, fun atmosphere that transports you to the Italian seaside circa early 1960's.  The food was delicious with my favorite dish being the Squash Carpaccio.  Afterwards we walked the length of the High Line and back. The plantings and elevated journey between beautiful buildings was a treat.  NYC was my home for many years where I had a wonderful career in the magazine world.  It was great to go back for a short trip to see old friends and make some new ones, and bring back a bit of that city energy!

website redesign!

Late last summer I set off to my favorite beach on the coast of Maine with the photographer, Winky Lewis, to photograph my work in the place that provides me with endless inspiration.  My dear friend and web designer, Kim Osborne, has finished my redesign using many of the images we took that day.   Thank you, Winky and Kim, for a beautiful website!  -Michele xoxo

porchetta dinner with friends

photos by Erin Little

I love entertaining and nothing is more satisfying than happy guests.  My husband and I had long wanted to make a porchetta.  We have been buying half a pig from our farmer friends in South Bristol for the past half dozen years, or so.  This time we asked for the pork belly to be left in one large piece in anticipation of making a porchetta.  The belly is then wrapped around a pork loin and seasoned with fennel seeds, fresh sage, fresh rosemary, garlic and thin slices of orange.  We used a recipe from Bon Appetit that I had ripped out of the magazine three years ago!  We served it with buttery mashed potatoes, sauteed cabbage and apple sauce.  When our friends, and guests, remarked that the meal felt very much like a Thanksgiving dinner I felt sure our dinner was a success!  Dessert brought by our guests included a delicious apple cake, and a stunning triple layer pumpkin cake (seen in the last image above.)  If you would like the recipe it is here.  Also, take a look at photographer, Erin Little's new blog series called Monday's Meal where she featured our porchetta!
