more white pieces

I'm having a bit of a love affair with my new white glaze!  I can't seem to get enough.  That's o.k.  I will return to some of my deep blues later this summer when I spend time at  Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts.  I am renting space, once again, in their big old barn that overlooks the surrounding woods and meadows.  It will be a bit of fresh air from my studio space in Brooklyn.  I can't wait!

a lovely swedish summer house

photos Hus&Hem/Peter Carlsson

I'm forever drawn to white interiors with pops of bright colors.  This little beauty is no exception.  The perfect summer house....and it doesn't hurt that it's in Sweden!

the makers project

photos by Jennifer Causey

The Makers is a photo project by the photographer Jennifer Causey who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.  This project grew out of her search for people who make things by hand. "I love discovering people who embrace a more tactile way of living, so I decided to start photographing them."  Recently Jennifer visited my studio in Red Hook (the images above) and photographed me for her series which you can see here (as well as the current issue of Sweet Paul Magazine. Some of the other "makers" in her project are Lena Corwin, Saipau, Clam Lab, and Mast Brothers Chocolate.  Thank you, Jen, for including Elephant Ceramics in your series!

collage artist leslie siegel

These collages are the creation of artist, and prop stylist, Leslie Siegel.  She started some 20 years ago "gluing ribbon in precise rows onto plywood as a way to become a more patient person."   She now uses paper from a variety of discarded publications where she "moves images around until relationships develop."   Leslie is a dear friend of mine and a super talented prop stylist whose clients include national magazines, cookbooks, and advertising.  She just completed styling the Mile End Deli cookbook and is getting ready to work on the third Baked cookbook.  You can see more of her collages here, along with her photography and styling.
