inspiring work: lucie rie

I learned recently about Lucie Rie through my friend, and fellow ceramicist, Paula, who is a fan of Lucie's work.  Lucie was born in 1902 in Vienna, and died, at age 93, in London where she lived for 57 years.  She was one of the leading studio potters of the 20th century, earning many awards and recognition during her lifetime.   The work that Lucie produced was quite modern for her time.  She worked exclusively on the wheel.  Having an extensive knowledge of ceramic chemistry she was able to develop many interesting glazes that became her signature.  Her work is truly inspiring!
